Chatfield Strut

Text: Dave Butler
Tune: "Golden Jubilee"
Traditional Irish(?), attributed by some sources to Marie Doherty

Arrangement adapted by Dave Butler, based on lead sheet published by Hal Leonard Publishing in Celtic Fake Book, but with a slightly different chord progression

'Twas in a town called Wichita, in the county of Sedgwick.
An old-fashioned couple they lived there, Miz Vicki and her Nick.
They were goin' to have a party on their anniversary.
Says Vicki, "Come here, Nick my dear, and listen up to me."

[Refrain (same chords and tune as verse)]
"Put on your ould knee-breeches, and your coat of em'rald green,
Take off that hat, me darlin' Nick, put on your old caubeen.
Then throw a log on the fire — it's our anniversary,
And there ain't nobody comin' here tonight but you and me!"

"Say, Nick, do you remember when you asked me to be your bride?
I said that it would be one cold day, and you said that would be fine.
You made me laugh, you made me cry — I'd have you no other way.
So come over here, Nick, sweetheart dear, and hear what I got to say."

[Refrain]

Then the band shows up sayin' "Come quick, Nick, we got a gig to do"
Says Nick, "You boys had better git before I do git blue.
Best go on, get you with that one, that one you love truly.
I for sure ain't goin' out tonight, you know Vicki she told me!"
