Here's some info from Univ of Penna library about Welsh

A group of teachers from Welsh is attending a series of six weekly Internet classes sponsored by the Bridge Project, a collaboration which includes LibertyNet and Nonprofit Technology Resources.

A student savings plan at Welsh was featured in an article in the Philadelphia Inquirer Sunday Business section 10/13/96. If you visit, be sure to check out the search tool and browse 15 years of archives.

If you'd like to see a street map showing Welsh's location, try sending this address (2331 N 4th St Philadelphia, PA 19133) to a map-generating site:

Is your home or work address within the Empowerment Zone?
Try this search tool to find out. If you are a Zone resident or are part of a Zone organization, check out the About the Bridge Project Page which includes this:
`Through a network of public access sites, residents of the Zone will be able to learn about the Internet and e-mail and sign up for free e-mail accounts. Zone organizations will be provided with Internet accounts at little or no cost.'

Leading the Tuesday afternoon class is Nick Sanders, an NTR board member. Nick also leads classes for literacy tutors. Assisting in Tuesday's class is Dave Butler, a Computer Learning Center student who has been an NTR volunteer since June. Dave leads another class for public school teachers on Saturday mornings at Workforce 2000. NTR's Director, Stan Pokras, also assists in preparing for this class, and leads classes for job counselors. Assisting in Stan's classes is Clara Wimbro-Lewis. Other assistants at these classes have included Burina Barksdale, Billy Smith, Robert Sawyer, and Lee McGuire, all CLC students and NTR volunteers.

In searching for "John Welsh" I stumbled across a thank you to John Welsh of Maris Equipment Company, Inc., Austin, Tx, who donated web space for GulfCoast Odyssey of the Mind `... a world-wide, nonprofit organization that promotes creative team-based problem solving in a school program for students from kindergarten through college. The program helps students learn divergent thinking and problem solving skills while participating in a series of challenging and motivating activities, both inside and outside their regular classroom curriculum.'

S.J. Welsh Middle School `... opened as a junior high school in 1959 in a sparsely populated area just outside the city limits of Lake Charles.'
