Mom passed away this morning. Nancy was here last week and went home two days before Xmas because we thought that mom was stable and strong. But mom stopped eating and drinking Christmas day. Nancy came back Wednesday night and the hospice nurses helped us through the dying process. Nancy and I were holding her hands for her last hours on earth. I hope she knew it was us and could hear our voices telling her how much she was loved and cherished. David wasn't able to make the trip out but he had a good visit during the summer and Nancy and I reminded mom how much David loved her.

In recent years, mom would brag to doctors about her age...but she was usually off by a year or two. She was 98 and a couple of months. Her plan had been to make it to 100 to outlive her oldest sister. Mom has been ready to go; while it was so hard to let her go, it was definitely time. She could no longer do those things that brought her joy and happiness.

Nancy P. Butler, Dave Butler, and I have loved hearing how mom was special in your lives. She was a force of nature and we know that she'll live on in all of those she taught how to live life fully and have the confidence to tackle any project you envisioned.

Mom died as the first snow of the season was falling outside her bedroom window. It was so peaceful and beautiful. ♥
