In 1980, Flo and John relocated to Cranston, Rhode Island, where they lived for several years in a small house (the "Red House") owned by Technic, adjacent to Technic's headquarters on Spectacle Street, near Spectacle Pond. Flo worked full-time at Technic until retiring on her 69th birthday in 1994.
In 1983, they purchased a house on Walter Carey Road in Smithfield, where Flo built the last of her in-ground swimming pools. Her previous two pools resembled the Wichita pool in design, being 8 or 9 feet in depth, a little over 30 feet in length, and 15 or so feet in width. The Smithfield pool was shallow, long and narrow, two swimming lanes 75 feet in length, but less than 5 feet in depth. Neighborhood children enjoyed the pool and nearby Space Trolley, and spent many happy hours marveling at John's magic tricks and "Dad" jokes.
