Sunapee, New Hampshire, 1966

By 1966, John's parents had sold their town home in Newport, New Hampshire, and lived for most of the year in what they called "The Cottage" on Lake Sunapee. Cottage is a bit of a misnomer. The living room, an outbuilding known as the "Stone House," and the stone walls surrounding the lawn, were the remains of the old Colgate estate on Fernwood Point. A dining room, kitchen, bathroom and living room had been added. A later addition was the "Sun Room" across from the bathroom, looking out on the lawn. John's youngest sibling, Uncle Tom or "Tee-bone," an avid photographer, took these photos on the lawn at a family gathering.
